Sports Photography

Over the last few years I have been actively photographing my kids playing baseball. I can usually be found camera in hand on the sidelines waiting for the next exciting play. Below are images from the District 7 Little League tournament in Victoria BC.

Fireworks

I am a celebrator. All occasions call for a party, or at least a cake. As such holidays with fireworks are some of my favourites. Whether you recently celebrated Canada’s 150th birthday, or the 4th of July chances are fireworks were involved. In case you missed the fireworks, here are some from beautiful ones from Victoria, BC.

It’s Raining, it’s pouring…Photo shoot

We live 5,000 kilometers from our nearest relative, and it has benefits and draw backs. There is no chance of a drop by where I am caught in my jammies past noon, but there is also no chance that my kids can have an impromptu play-date with their cousins. The holidays are a time when I wished that we lived closer to family, so when my friend Jen asked if I would like to do a photo-shoot with her family that was visiting from out of town I jumped at the chance. I appreciate that her family has never been in Victoria together before, and some photos to capture the reunion were called for.

We met at Saxe Point park which is a great spot for a photo-shoot because it is right on the ocean. Unfortunately, it had been raining on and off for days so the ground was a little soggy. The sun was out for a few minutes and I was able to capture the family together but then the sky opened and tried to drown us. We cowered in the bushes and finished the photos under cover of trees. Everyone was a good sport about the weather because it was December in Victoria, and rain is inevitable. Remarkably you can’t even tell from the photos that we were in the middle of a down pour!

Christmas Family Photos

For a few years, I have opened my home to my friends and their families for a Christmas themed photo session. This year I photographed 8 families in one afternoon! With families of 2-7 people, and 1-4 children per family there was a lot of variety in the shots. But even with a range of ages and stages one there was a commonality among the photos. These families are full of big personalities which shone through.

Having two kids myself is helpful when working with other families. In my experience, there aren’t any kids as difficult to photograph as my own. Remarkably other peoples’ kids listen to me, mine do not. It is so much fun to photograph kids because you never know what you are going to get. I can hardly believe that even with 19 kids there wasn’t one single tear.

Florida

I have been thinking a lot about Florida lately as Hurricane Matthew was in the news. We spent some time in Florida earlier this year visiting family. While we were there aside from the theme parks and other tourist attractions my husband and I took a quick trip to the Keys and Miami.

I mentioned before that I don’t have a focus or a style because I don’t want to limit myself, so in this grouping there are pictures of birds, graffiti, night shots, and reflections. I don’t see any reason to limit my focus (pun intended) so I shoot what I see as I see it. These are my favourite shots from our mini vacation.

Alaska

I don’t know about you but when I go on vacation I always bring my camera. I take a million photos (or at least it feels that way) and when I get home life takes over. All of the photos that I took are saved and maybe never looked at again. I took this group of photos on my first trip to Alaska in 2008. I probably looked at them shortly after I took them, burned them to a disk and filed the disk away. It was a very happy surprise when I found them recently.

Victoria Fly By

I had the opportunity recently to do a fly by over Victoria, BC. It was a beautiful day even with the wind. I literally bounced around in my seat and more than once collided with the window while snapping at the landscape below. Even with the turbulence I managed to capture a few shots which I am pretty proud of. Please let me know what you think in the comments below.

Living in the Age of Airplanes

Making A Life

Making A Life Aerial 7

Yesterday, I took my kids to see “Living in the Age of Airplanes” at the IMAX theater. The movie provided a history of travel and got me excited to see more of the world. I take airplane travel for granted as I have been flying my whole life.
